In December of 2012, Antonio Augusto Verissimo, Project Coordinator at Rio de Janeiro, Secretaria de Habitacao came to Chicago to present “Morar Carioca,” a municipal urban plan to integrate the informal neighborhoods (favelas) in Rio de Janeiro into the formal urban fabric of the City. Mr. Verissimo presented the plan to Chicago City government agencies such as the Department of Planning and Development and the Chicago Housing Authority and many Public Housing professionals. Mr. Verissimo learned about the Chicago Public Housing innovations and planning policies. He also visited Chicago CHA affordable housing projects, “The Plant “(an aquaponics center at at Back of The Yards). Pat Natke and Carmen Vidal-Hallett coordinated his visit in Chicago.
